CYCLONES TAKE BATTLE COURT FALL SEASON TITLE

Spain-U.S. Chamber of Commerce earns $40,000 donation as winning team’s charity

The Cyclones seized the World Jai-Alai League’s (WJAL) Battle Court Winter season championship Friday night, defeating the Devils in a thrilling winner-take-all Finals matchup at the Magic City Fronton. The victory marks the Cyclones’ second championship title since 2022 and closes out the league’s run at the Magic City Fronton with its eighth overall championship.

The Finals also spotlighted the league’s ongoing commitment to community impact. A check presentation at center court capped off the evening, with the Cyclones earning a $40,000 donation for their charity partner, the Spain-U.S. Chamber of Commerce.

Owned by Chris Cote and Mike Ruiz, longtime producers of “The Dan Le Batard Show with Stugotz”, the Cyclones seized the title in the decisive fifth match. Team captain Manu was presented with the championship trophy at center court by three-time NBA All-Star champion Glen Rice. The Cyclones’ powerhouse roster, known by their courtside names, includes Manu, Iñaki, Jairo, Bueno, Unda, and Stan.

“Since launching the league in 2018, we’ve watched the sport evolve in real time,” said Scott Savin, chief operating officer of the World Jai-Alai League. “From the athletic intensity on the court to the energy surrounding this Finals, the night reflected WJAL’s long term investment in talent and our belief in modern jai-alai. Moments like this reinforce that the sport has an exciting future and a place in South Florida’s professional sports landscape.”

The 14-week Battle Court Winter season delivered high-intensity matchups, elite international talent, and meaningful community connection, reinforcing the league’s mission to modernize jai-alai while honoring its roots. Since 2022, the World Jai-Alai League has contributed more than $400,000 to South Florida-based nonprofits. This season’s charitable partners included the Baila con Micho Dance School, Debris-Free Oceans, Earthbound Academy, the SLAM Foundation, Spain-U.S. Chamber of Commerce and the Udonis Haslem Foundation.

Matches stream on ESPN3 and are available for legal wagering in Florida via the Hard Rock Bet app, as well as nationally through DraftKings, FanDuel, and ESPN Bet.
